EXTERNALLY FOCUSED CHURCH. Sharefest OKC, Sharefest Tulsa, Crossings Community Church and The OFBCI (Faithlinks) are sponsoring a one-day conference to explore the characteristics of churches that are transforming their communities as well as provide practical steps for getting started. Dr. Eric Swanson, co-author of The Externally Focused Church, will be the speaker. The conference is being held on October 6, 2008 from 8:15 am to 1:30 pm at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland Avenue in Oklahoma City. The registration fee is $45 and includes lunch. WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE. A regional conference is being hosted on October 3, 2008 in Dallas, Texas to promote understanding of the Presidents faith-based and community initiative. The conference will also provide information about the federal grants process, funding opportunities, the basic legal responsibilities that come with federal funding and practical information on the grant-writing process. The conference is free, but pre-registration is required. Visit www.fbci.gov for more information and to register online.

 

BE READY!. September is National Preparedness Month and the Oklahoma Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives has designated September 28, 2008 as "Be Ready Sunday". Faith-based organizations across the state are encouraged to address issues of emergency and disaster preparedness which can range from severe weather to a terrorist attack to a hazardous material incident. "ALL ABOUT US 2008". The Oklahoma Marriage Initiative launches its 2008 All About Us tour which includes 18 stops. Expert, dynamic workshop leaders will teach couples the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP), a research-based curriculum. Those who attend the free workshops will learn how to have the best marriage possible, talk without arguing, and have more fun together. This is not marriage counseling.
