TOP 10 THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR A FOSTER CHILD. The OFBCI has created a list of The Top 10 Things You Can Do For A Foster Child. The list may be downloaded or is available by request for group distribution. To participate in The Top 10, email info@faithlinksok.com for the specific information for your area. Special thanks to the Oklahoma faith media for helping to promote The Top 10 and the many ways the faith community can serve our foster children.  For more information about becoming a foster parent, please call the Foster Care and Adoption Recruitment Office at 1-866-242-9088.

WHY BECOME A STATE VENDOR? From time to time, the Department of Central Services issues Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or Invitations to Bid (ITBs) on certain social service programs for community, regional or statewide implementation. Historically, these contracts have included a variety of program topics such as Adopt-A-Worker, Job Coaching, Fatherhood Education, Healthy Marriages, etc., many of which are areas of interest to the faith community. Faith-based and community organizations may request that they be placed on Oklahoma's vendor list for these social service contracts. For more information on Oklahoma vendor registration, please click here. Once registered, the organization will be eligible to apply for funded contract opportunities as they appear on the DCS website.

Faith-based organizations can accept federal or state awards without compromising the integrity of their message. The basic guideline is that inherently religious activities are separated by time or location from the funded program. Participation in any religious activity must be on a purely voluntary basis and refusal cannot result in discrimination against an individual or jeopardize the individuals participation in the program receiving government funding. See document entitled "Commonly Asked Questions and Answers". Current contract postings are located on the Department of Central Services website at: http://www.dcs.state.ok.us/Solicitations.nsf

HB 2101: THE TRANSFORMATIONAL JUSTICE ACT. The Oklahoma Legislature recently passed House Bill 2101 with regard to reintegration of inmates and the reduction of recidivism. The Bill became effective on November 1, 2007. One of the components of this legislation is the establishment of the Reintegration of Inmates Revolving Fund and The Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) has been identified as the administering agent. The fund is to be utilized for grants to volunteer organizations that provide health, educational or vocational training, and other programs that assist in re-entry efforts. Grants will be awarded through a competitive application process, however, the types of services needed are still being assessed. Volunteer organizations that provide pre or post-release reentry services and may be interested in applying for a mini-grant should refer to the section on this web page entitled “Laying the Foundation for Funding”.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR FUNDING. If your faith-based or community organization is in its infancy and/or will be seeking private or government funding for a social service program, there are a few things you can do to prepare. Here's our suggestions.

2-1-1, ANOTHER COMMUNITY RESOURCE. Are you familiar with the 2-1-1 Helpline in your area? In case you haven't heard, 2-1-1 is an information and referral helpline for individuals and families in need. By simply dialing 211, a caller is automatically routed to the local call center for assistance. The call specialist will help locate appropriate faith-based or community resources by accessing a comprehensive database of health and human service providers in the callers community.

If your faith-based organization provides a community service or
211 Logoministry and you would like to request inclusion in the information and referral network, contact the call center for your area. This may be determined by visiting: www.211oklahoma.org. The OFBCI has been actively involved in the statewide development of call centers through participation in the Oklahoma 2-1-1 Advisory Collaborative.
